duce a bill to secure to Sarah Gamill, the title to a certain
House and Lot, in the town of Havre de Grace, in Harford
county.

On motion of Mr. Burgess,

Leave was granted to the Charles county delegation, to in-
troduce a bill for the relief the sureties of Benjamin Marshall
former collector of State and County taxes in Charles county.

On motion of Mr. Belt,

Leave was granted to the Prince George's county delega-
tion to introduce a bill to supply defects in the system of pub-
lic roads in Prince George's county.

On motion of Mr. Stirling,

Leave was granted to the committee on Judiciary, to intro-
duce a bill to provide for and regulate the registration of
births, marriages and deaths in this State

Mr. Magruder, from a majority of the committee on Judi-
ciary, reported unfavorably on a bill entitled, an act to inter-
pret and define the meaning of the word "resident" as used
in Art. 1, section 1, of the Constitution of Maryland.

Mr. Alexander, from the minority of said committee, report-
ed favorably on said bill;

Which was read the first time.

The following message from the Executive was received at
the hands of Richard D. Sellman, Esq., Private Secretary:

STATE OF MARYLAND, }

Executive Department, }
Annapolis, January 26th, 1858.}

To the Speaker of the House of Delegates:

Sir:—In compliance with the request contained in your
letter of the 22d inst., I herewith enclose to you a copy of the
returns made to this Department, of the election for members
of the House of Delegates.

I am, very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,

THOS. H. HICKS.

The returns of elections held in the different counties of
this State, and the city of Baltimore, on the 4th November,
1857, for Delegates to the General Assembly of Maryland, as
returned by the clerks of said counties and city, sent to this
Department:

In Saint Mary's county the Judges return that George H.
Morgan received 744 votes; Robert Neale received 652 votes;
