WEDNESDAY, January, 27, 1858.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by Rev. Mr.
Davenport.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Wickes, Meginnis, Tongue,
Mackubin, Kilbourn, Magruder, Burgess, Walker, Allender,
Ford, of Baltimore county, Lynch, of Baltimore county, Smith,
of Baltimore county, Clarke, Goldsborough, Waller, Sudler,
of Somerset, Tilghman, Dail, Richardson, Grieves, Davis,
Ford, of Cecil, Kidd, Belt, Wyville, Contee, Sudler, of Queen
Anne's, Landing, Spence, Hearn, Thomas, Harding, Bowlus,
Root, Koons, Hobbs, Hanway, Bacon, Todd, McGonigal,
Stirling, Rogers, McPherson, Smith of Baltimore city, Ken-
nard, Lynch, of Baltimore city, Harrington, Crowley, Forrest,
Alexander, Rohrer, Summers, Schnebly, Duvall, Worthington,
Thruston, Barnard, Mountz, Mckinstry, Reindollar, Day,
Welling and Dorsey.

The proceedings of yesterday, were read.

Mr. Crowley presented the petition of Charles street Avenue
Company, asking to have their charter amended ;

Which was referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. McGonigal presented a petition from Wm. H. Downes,
Simeon West, and twenty-one other citizens in the first elec-
tion district, of Caroline county, against the repeal of the
present school law in said district;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. Welling presented a petition from St. G. W. Teakle,
and others of Baltimore city, to repeal the act taxing Trustees,
Executors and Administrators ;

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Morgan presented a petition of Wm. H. Hebb, James
C. Milburn, Perry Combs, William E. Cole, and 28 other citi-
zens of St. Mary's county, remonstrating against the passage
of a law permitting persons to dredge for oysters in the waters
of the Potomac and the Chesapeake ;

Which was read and referred to a special committee consis-
ting of the St. Mary's, Calvert, and Charles county delega-
tions.

Mr. Stirling presented a petition from sundry merchants of
Baltimore, against a change in the Pilot laws ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.
