On motion of Mr. Alexander,

The rules were suspended, and he offered a petition from cer-
tain citizens of Baltimore city, praying for a charter for a Fire
Insurance Company;

Which was referred to committee on Corporations, hereafter to
be appointed.

On motion of Mr. Lynch, of Baltimore city,
Leave was granted the committee on Claims, hereafter to be
appointed, to introduce a bill to compensate the Law Greys, a vol-
unteer military company of Baltimore city, for services rendered
on the line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, during
the riots on that road in May, 1857.

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city,
The rules were suspended, and he presented the memorial of
Thomas Trotten and other citizens of Baltimore city, praying the
restriction or prohibition of the sale of ardent spirits;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary, hereafter to
be appointed.

Mr. Neale offered the following order :

Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed to enquire
into the manner in which the inspection laws of this State are
observed, with power to send for persons and papers, and to report
by bill, or otherwise;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Grieves offered the following order:

Ordered, That the Speaker of the House of Delegates be re-
quested to pay off the former officers of the House who have been
present at the opening of the present session;

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Stonestreet,

The rules were suspended to present the petition of Wm. B.
Stone, and others, for the removal of a record from Allegany
to Charles county;

Which was referred to committee on Judiciary, hereafter to be
appointed.

The Speaker laid before the House the report of the Treasurer
of Maryland of his quarterly settlements, with the Comptroller.
And one hundred copies were ordered to be printed.

Mr. Wickes, presented the petition of John W. Pierson, for com-
pensation for the loss of a servant, convicted and sentenced to the
penitentiary;

Which was referred to the committee on Claims.
Mr. Morgan offered the following order:
