134              JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 25,

Mr. Rogers offered the following order:

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal that the ab-
sence of Messrs. Stirling, Lynch, of Baltimore City, and
Lynch, of Baltimore County, is caused by their duties as
members of the joint committee on Hospitals ;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Bacon offered the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal that Mr.
Baker's absence is on account of the death of his child ;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Forrest offered the following order:

Ordered, That the committee appointed under an order of
this House passed on the 14th instant, to proceed to the city of
Baltimore, to examine the records and general condition of
the office of the Superior Court for the city of Baltimore, be
instructed to examine also, into the condition of the financial
department and other duties of said office for the last six years,
and during the term of office of the late clerk, and have full
power and authority to send for persons and papers, and ex-
amine witnesses under oath, if necessary, and report the result
to this House;

Which was adopted.
Mr. Grieves offered the following order:

Ordered, That the State Librarian be authorised and direc-
ted to transfer to the President and Board of Trustees of Cam-
bridge Academy, situated in Cambridge, Dorchester county,
for the use of said Academy, the balance of the old chairs for-
merly used by this body, and now in charge of the Librarian;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Kilbourn offered the following order :

Ordered, That leave be granted to the Anne Arundel coun-
ty delegation, to bring in a bill to increase the School Tax of
said county ;                                                                     

Which was adopted.

Mr. Koons offered the following order :

Ordered, That the committee on Judiciary be instructed to
inquire into the expediency of giving to the Orphans' Court,
full chancery powers over all estates of deceased, or insolvent
persons, appraised at a less sum than $1000 ;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Hobbs offered the following order :                             

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr. Kidd
