Said bill being on its second reading,

Mr. Burgess proposed the following amendment:

In 1st section, 9th line, after the word "friend," in the
line insert the words "provided such parent, guardian or
next friend, has been a bona fide citizen of this State, for at
least two years previous to such application;"

Which was adopted.

Also, section 1st, 12th line, after the word "twenty,"
strike out the word "five," and insert "one;"
Which was adopted.

Also, 2d section, 35th line, after the word "exceed," strike
out the words "seven thousand," and insert the words "five
thousand;"

Which was adopted.

Mr. Chaplain proposed the following amendment:

Section 2nd, strike out " five " and insert " six ;"

Which was rejected.

Mr. Chaplain proposed the following amendment:

Section 3, strike out the entire section and insert the fol-
lowing :

"Be it enacted, That the first, second, third, fourth, fifth
and sixth sections of article 33, of the code of public general
laws, be and the same are hereby repealed, and the foregoing
sections substituted therefor;"

Which was adopted, and the bill, as amended, was then
read the second time, and by special order the third time, and
passed by yeas and nays as follow :
