Mr. Lawson presented a petition from Littleton Whitting-
ton, and two hundred and fifty other citizens of the fourteenth
election district in Somerset county, praying the passage of a
law prohibiting the sale of spirituous liquors in said dis-
trict;

Referred to the Somerset county delegation.

Mr. Seth presented a memorial from Luke Griffin and
others, praying for the protection of fish in the waters of the
Chesapeake bay;                                                             

Referred to the committee on Oysters and Fish.

Mr. Brown presented a petition from Theodore Tubman
and others, of Howard county, for a new school district out
of Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 of said county;

Referred to the Howard county delegation.

Mr. Harding presented a petition from Smith Thompson,
and sundry citizens of Montgomery county, for the relief of
Hilleary Chavous, a free negro;

Referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Naill presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Adamstown, in Frederick county, in relation to the local
trade on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad;

Referred to the special committee on that subject.

Mr. Morgan offered the following:

Ordered, That the reports of the committee on elections,
submitted to this House, be and the same are hereby made
the order of the day for Monday the 5th inst., and that they have
precedence over all other orders and business, and retain such
precedence at all sessions of the House until finally disposed
of.

Mr. Harding proposed to amend by striking out Monday
and inserting Wednesday;
