school at or near the Annapolis Junction, in the fourth elec-
tion district;

Mr. Chaplain presented a petition from Samuel T. Hopkins
and others, of Talbot county, asking for an increase upon the
fees of the sheriff of Talbot county, in certain cases therein
mentioned;

Mr. Turner, of Baltimore city, presented three memorials
from the ladies of Baltimore, protesting against the oppres-
sive bills now before the House, in relation to the free colored
population of this State;
Referred to the committee on Colored Population.
On motion of Mr. McAllister,
Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation to intro-
duce a bill to amend the 4th article of the code of public
local laws.
Mr. Long, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported
favorably on the Senate bill entitled, an act authorisng the
Comptroller to adjust the accounts of Philip G. Love, col-
lector of taxes in the 4th and 5th election districts of Saint
Mary's county, for the year 1859, and to allow as credits on
the same all sums of money for which the State's attorney
has receipted;
