Mr. Eakle presented a memorial from sundry citizens of
Washington county, praying to be furnished with arms and
accoutrements for Capt. R. E. Cook's Rifle Company, in the
town of Sharpsburg:

Which was referred to the committee on the Militia.
Mr. Eakle presented the following :

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Adjutant General be, and he is hereby ordered to furnish
Capt. R. Ellsworth Cook, fifty Minnie Rifles, with knapsacks
and all of the accoutrements from the quota due the State from
the General Government, for the year eighteen hundred and fif-
ty-nine, upon his giving security for their safe keeping and re-
turn when required by the State.

Which was read the first time.
Mr. Harding offered the following:

Ordered, That a committee of two be appointed to wait
upon the Governor, and request him to have the National
Flag raised upon the steeple of the State House each day dur-
ing the session of either branch of the Legislature.

Which was adopted.
On motion of Mr. Briscoe.

Leave was granted the committee, on Internal Improve-
ments, to introduce a bill more particularly defining the du-
ties and powers of the Commissioners of Public Works of this

State.

Mr. Stake presented the application of James W. Leggett,
for compensation therein mentioned ;

Which was referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Landing, from a select committee, reported favorably
on the bill entitled, an act to make valid a deed from Benja-
min Blades to Elisha Jones;

Which was read the first time, and referred to the com-
mittee on the Judiciary.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following mes-
sage:
