Also, on the bill entitled, an act to authorise the trustees
of the Garrison Forest Academy, in Baltimore county, to
convey a certain lot of land to the trustees of the Methodist
Episcopal church, in said county;

Which was read the first time.

The House took up for consideration the unfinished busi-
ness of yesterday,

A bill entitled, an act to repeal the 1st, 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th,
6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th,
17th, 18th, 19th and 20th sections of the 19th article of the
code of public general laws, which provides for the appoint-
ment of a board of managers to remove from this State, free
people of color, and prescribes their powers and duties, and
appropriates funds for that purpose;

Said bill being upon its second reading.

Mr. Briscoe proposed the following amendment:

Strike out after the word "the," in the 2d line of the 1st
section, the words "1st, 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, 17th, 18th and
19th;"

Which was concurred in.

On motion of Mr. Burgess,
The bill was recommitted.

The House then continued the consideration of the un-
finished business of yesterday;

The second of the series of Mr. Jacob's bills;

Being the bill entitled, an act to repeal the 21st, 22d, 23d,
24th, 25th and 26th sections of the 55th article of the code
of public general laws, regulating the issuing of licenses to
hawkers and pedlars, and to substitute therefor the following
sections, regulating and restraining the issuing of such
licenses;

Said bill being upon its second reading.

Mr. Bayless proposed the following amendment:

Provided nevertheless, that nothing in this act contained,
shall be construed to prohibit the sale or distribution of any
books, tracts, pamphlets, periodicals, or other documents by
any colporteur, or other persons authorised or employed by
any of the religious denominations, ecclesiastical bodies or
benevolent societies of this State.
