Mr. Worthington offered the following:
Ordered, That the committee on Ways and Means be in-
structed to inquire of the Comptroller, and report to this
House the amount of appropriations already made by this
General Assembly, and such other amounts as are annually
required to be paid by the State by laws now in force, togeth-
er with a statement of the amount which will probably be
found to be due to St. John's College by virtue of the recent
decision of the judges of the Court of Appeals, so that this
House may be better able to anticipate the condition of the
treasury for the ensuing two years, and determine what
amount of direct taxation will be necessary to meet the de-
mands on the name for that period:

On motion of Mr. Turner, of Baltimore city.
Leave was granted to the Baltimore county delegation to
introduce a bill entitled, an act to extend the powers of com-
missioners of Baltimore county.
On motion of Mr. Berry,
Leave was granted to the committee on Corporations to in-
troduce a bill to authorise the mayor and city council of Bal-
timore to issue her bonds to purchase a certain part of the
Pittsburg and Connellsville Railroad.
On motion of Mr. Turner, of Howard,
Leave was granted the Howard county delegation to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an act to repeal the fifth section of ar-
ticle—of the code of public local laws, relating to duties of
trustees of primary schools in Howard county.
Mr. McAllister offered the following:
Ordered by the House of Delegates, That the late sheriff
of Baltimore city, Thomas Creamer, Esq., report to this
House on or before the 21st instant, what amount of fines
was collected by him for keepers of bawdy houses, disorderly
houses, selling liquor without licenses, and selling liquor
on Sunday, and what disposition was made of said fines, how
much of said tines paid into the State treasury, and what
amount paid to informers, and who said informers are.
