Drury and sundry other citizens of St. Mary's county, pray-
ing for the passage of laws, having for their object the grad-
ual abolition of free negroism in the State of Maryland;

Also, a memorial of sundry citizens of St. Mary's county,
praying for the passage of laws, for the gradual abolition of
free negroism in the State of Maryland;           

Which were severally referred to the committee on Colored
Population.

Mr. Maxwell presented a remonstrance from James A. Davis
and 150 other citizens of Port Deposit, against the passage
of the bill now before the Senate, prohibiting the anchoring of
lumber and timber rafts in the Susquehanna river, at or near
Port Deposit;

Referred to the Cecil county delegation.

Mr. Durant presented a petition from J. G. Spalding and
others, praying for a law authorising Peter Barnes McLane,
a free negro, to make a will;

Which was referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Holland presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Dorchester county, praying the passage of a law providing
further compensation for the sheriff of said county, in certain
cases therein named;                                                           

Referred to the Dorchester county delegation.

Mr. Griffith presented a petition from one hundred and
thirty citizens of Montgomery county, protesting against a
lease of the State's interest in the Chesapeake and Ohio
canal;

Which was read, ordered to be printed, and referred to the
committee on Internal Improvements.

Mr. Dennis, of Somerset, presented a petition from Jona-
than Huffington and others, praying a change in the mode of
appointing inspectors of wood and lumber;

Referred to the committee on Inspections.

Mr. Dennis, of Somerset, presented a petition from Tyler
Bradshaw and eighteen other citizens living on Holland's
Island, praying that the Nanticoke river and Hooper's straits
may be made the divisional line between Somerset and Dor-
chester counties:
