the sales of slaves under legal process, and by execution, and
by administrators to residents of the same county; to exempt
from execution for debt, slave property, as far as the consti-
tution will permit; such laws not to affect debts already con-
tracted, and to prohibit the separation of husband and wife,
parents and young children, in the sale of slaves, as far as
the exigencies of society will permit;

Referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Turner, of Howard, presented a petition from George
F. Kensey and 90 others, praying the opening of a public
road from a point on the Woodbine road, near to Duvall's
Mill on the Patuxent river, and following down near the
Raid river on suitable ground, to a point opposite to a branch
in Montgomery county, called Mad Cap Spring;

Referred to the Howard and Montgomery county delega-
tions.

Mr. Brown presented a petition from William Carpe and
nineteen others, to appoint commissioners to open a road in
Howard and Montgomery counties;

Referred to the same delegations;

Mr. Stake presented the petition of forty citizens of Wash-
ington county, in relation to the rates of charges on the Bal-
timore and Ohio Railroad;

Referred to the special committee on that subject.

Mr. Denison, of Baltimore city, presented a memorial from
L. Thomson & Co. and others, asking that no change may
be made in the present system of inspection of liquor, &c;

Referred to the committee on Inspections.

Also, a memorial from sundry traders and dealers in mer-
chandise, asking the repeal of the license law of 1858;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Seth presented a petition from the oyster packers of
Baltimore;

Referred to the special committee on Oysters and Fish.

Mr. Jacobs presented a petition in reference to the Eastern
Shore railroad appropriation;

Referred to the special committee on that subject.
