On motion of Mr. Maxwell,

Leave was granted the committee on Claims to introduce
a bill to compensate the 16th regiment of Maryland militia,
for services rendered to the State, on the 17th, 18th and 19th
days of October, 1859, under the act of 1834, chapter 251,
section 57.

Mr. Briscoe presented a memorial from Martha Hanison, of
Calvert county, praying the relief of the General Assembly
of Maryland, in regard to the laws of inheritance in this
State.

Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.
On motion of Mr. Crowley,                         

Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation to intro-
duce a bill to give certain powers to the mayor and city
council of Baltimore, in relation to streets, and over the
basin of the city of Baltimore.

On motion Mr. of Stake,

Leave was granted the Washington county delegation to
introduce a bill to provide for the collection of taxes by the
mayor and council of the town of Hagerstown.

On motion of Mr. Stake,                                   

Leave was granted the Washington county delegation to
introduce a bill to provide for the transmission of certain pa-
pers and proceedings to the clerk of Washington county
court.

On motion of Mr. Jones, of Prince George's,

Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to in-
troduce a bill granting the permission of the Legislature
to a bequest to St. Luke's Church, in Prince George's county,
by Dr. Hanson Price.

On motion of Mr. Claggett,

Leave was granted the Frederick county delegation to intro-
duce a bill entitled, an act to legalise the acts and proceed-
ings of John B. Gilbert, of Frederick county, while acting
as justice of the peace under the appointment of the Gov-
ernor.

On motion of Mr. Jones, of Prince George's,           

                                                                                                                           

Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to intro-
duce a bill enlarging the powers of the justices of the peace
of this State.
