delegation.

Also, a petition from S. S. Dawson, of Dorchester county,
praying the passage of an act authorising the Treasurer to
refund a sum of money erroneously paid by him to the clerk
of the Circuit court of Somerset county;         

Referred to the committee on Claims.         

Mr. Compton presented a petition from Pearson Chapman
and others, praying for the passage of an act suspending the
tax upon the Potomac fisheries for three years;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Bayless presented a petition from Peter Galloway and
Others, to prevent the staking of gilling nets in the head
waters of the Chesapeake bay;

Which was referred to the committee on Fish and Oysters.

Mr. Miller presented a petition from John Simpers and
other citizens of Cecil county, praying the repeal of the tax
on mortgages;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Also, the remonstrance of John McCullough and sixty-
five other citizens of Cecil county, against a division of the
annual appropriation to West Nottingham Academy in said
county;

Referred to the Cecil county delegation.

Mr. Mills presented a petition, asking the establishment
of a free scholarship in Irving College, Carroll county, Mary-
land;

Referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. Wilson, of Cecil, presented a petition from George W.
Ford and 120 other citizens of Cecil county, in reference to
stake nets in the head waters of the Chesapeake bay;

Referred to the committee on Fish and Oysters.

Mr. McCoy presented a memorial from William H. Pur-
nell, counter to the memorial of A. Lingan Jarrett;

Which was referred to the committee on Elections.
On motion of Mr. Mills,

Leave was granted the Baltimore county and Carroll county
delegations, to introduce a bill entitled, an act to incorporate
the Baltimore and Liberty Turnpike company.
