troduce a bill to amend the code so as to give the Governor
the power to appoint inspectors of liquor and other articles
in the city of Baltimore.

Mr. Wootton presented a memorial from sundry citizens of
Prince George's county, in relation to the free negro popula-
tion;

Referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Mr. McCoy presented a petition from William B. Gillespie,
of Harford county, asking a certain sum of money to be re-
funded, erroneously paid into the State Treasury of Mary-
land;

Referred to the committee on Claims.

On motion of Mr. Turner, of Baltimore city,

Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to in-
troduce a bill to regulate the practice of carrying deadly wea-
pons, and to restrain and punish their illegal use in the State
of Maryland.

On motion of Mr. Jones, of Prince George's,

Leave was granted the Prince George's county delegation
to introduce a bill establishing an additional free school in
Prince George's county.

Mr. Long, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported
a bill entitled, an act to amend the 24th article of the code
of public general laws, by amending the 19th section relating
to the recording of deeds, and by adding to said article a new
section to make valid acknowledgments made before commis-
sioners ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Mackubin, from the committee on Claims, reported
favorably on the following bills :

The bill entitled, an act to refund to Mrs. Mary Tabler,
certain monies erroneously paid ;

The bill entitled, an act to compensate James Revell, for
causes argued in the Court of Appeals, under the appoint-
ment and by the direction of the Governor of Maryland ;

Which were read the first time.

Mr. Landing, from the committee on Printing, made the
