Mr. Mackubin proposed the following :

By the Rouse of Delegates,

January 23, 1860.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We propose, with the concurrence of your honorable body,
the appointment of a joint committee of three, to examine the
work done under the act of 1858, appropriating a sum of
money for the erection of a fire-proof record office, and for
the repair of the buildings within the State House circle, re-
port what other repairs, if any, are necessary, and what
amount will be required for that purpose.

We have appointed Messrs. Mackubin, Naill and Burgess
on the part of this House.

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Turner, of Baltimore city,

Leave was granted the committee on Ways and Means to
introduce a bill to discourage the use of spirituous and intox-
icating liquors in this State.

On motion of Mr. Jones, of Prince George's,

Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to in-
troduce a bill to prohibit the judges of the several courts of
this State from acting as executors or administrators.

Mr. Straughn presented a petition from William H. Staf-
ford and others, asking a law to authorise the citizens of
Hunting Creek Neck to lay out and establish a school district
in the third election district in Caroline county;

Also, the petition of Thomas Straughn and others, asking
a law to authorise the trustees of primary schools in District
No. 1, in the upper election district of Caroline county, to
use the charity fund due said school for building a new school
house;

Which were referred to the committee on Ways and
Means.

On motion of Mr. Straughn,

Leave was granted the committee on Claims to introduce a
bill to pay A. G. Gullit, for printing done by order of the
Commissioner of the Land Office and others.
