into the condition of the House of Refuge, and report there-
on, be and they are hereby authorised and empowered to se-
lect a clerk to accompany them, in discharge of the trust re-
posed in them, who shall receive for his services such com-
pensation as the committee shall direct;

Mr. Wilson, of Harford, presented the report of the Har-
ford county Academy;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.
On motion of Mr. Mackubin,

Leave was granted the Anne Arundel county delegation to
introduce a bill to make valid the acknowledgment of a deed
from George H. Hall and Peter Bogart, to William Mor-
rison.

Mr. Legg proposed the following:

By the House of Delegates,

                                                      January 19, 1860.

Gentlemen of the Senate:

We propose, with the concurrence of your honorable body,
to appoint a joint committee of three, for the purpose of vis-
iting the Maryland Institute, and reporting its condition.

We have appointed Messrs.

to join such of your honorable body as may be designated by
you.

Mr. Burgess proposed the following amendment:

Add "provided, that no allowance be made to any member
of said committee for traveling or other expenses;"

On motion of Mr. Compton,
The whole subject was laid on the table.
On motion of Mr. Linthicum,

Leave was granted the committee on Inspections to intro-
duce a bill to repeal so much of section 538, article 4, of the
code of public local laws, as relates to the length of wood
and the breadth of a cord of wood.

On motion of Mr. Bayless,

Leave was granted the select committee, already appointed,
to report a bill to regulate the measurement of sweet potatoes,
to include in the bill Irish potatoes and apples.
