110              JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 19,

Mr. Gordon presented the memorial of sundry citizens of
Baltimore, praying the removal of Judge Stump ;

Which was referred to the special committee already ap-
pointed on that subject.

Mr. Seth presented a petition of James Bond & Sons, of
Baltimore city, relative to the fisheries ;

Which was referred to the select committee already ap-
pointed on that subject.

Mr. Briscoe presented a memorial from the American
Tract Society and others, asking an exemption from the col-
lateral inheritance tax on certain legacies ;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Parran presented a petition from D. Kent, praying to
he allowed certain fees therein mentioned and due him by
the State;                                                                         

Referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Briscoe presented a petition from William A. Parran,
register of wills for Calvert county, asking to be refunded a
certain tax heretofore paid on his commission as register of
said county;

Referred to the committee on Claims.                               

Mr. Smith offered the following:                                     

Ordered, That the committee on Corporations consider and
report as to the mode in which a director, on the part of the
State, in the Bank of Baltimore, shall be appointed, the num-
ber of directors on the part of private stockholders, hav-
ing been reduced as provided for in the third section of
the act entitled, an act to continue the corporate existence of
the several banking institutions therein mentioned, chapter
441, passed 30th May, 1853;

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Beall,

Leave was granted the Allegany county delegation to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an act to amend the eighteenth section
of article first of the code of public local laws, by raising the
salary of the clerk to the commissioners of Allegany county;

Mr. Miller offered the following:
