On motion of Mr. Griffith,

Ordered, That it be entered upon the journal that E. Sudler,
of Kent county, is detained from his seat by indisposition.

Which was adopted.             

On motion of Mr. Daniel,

Leave to introduce a Bill to authorise the devise of Mary
Reed of Caroline county, to the Protestant Episcopal Church of
St. John's Parish, and the Methodist Episcopal Church, of
Greensborough, both in said county.

Referred to a select committee of three.

On motion of Mr. Stone,

The petition of P. W. Crain and other citizens of Charles
county, asking the release of Wm. Nevitt, late Collector, from
the payment of interest, &c.;

Was returned from the Committee on Claims, and referred to
the Committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Griffith offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary inquire into
the expediency of providing by law, that executions of capital pun-
ishment shall take place, in the presence only, of a limited number
of persons to be appointed by the Court pronouncing sentence of
death;                                                       

Which resolution, by rule, was laid over for one day.

On motion of Mr. Merrick,

The rules were suspended to allow him to present the memo-
rial of a large number of citizens of Charles county, praying for
the repeal of the Stamp tax;                                                   

Which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

On motion of Mr. Smith of Carroll,

Leave was granted the Carroll county delegation to report a bill
amendatory of the act of 1852, chapter 304; and the act of 1853,
chapter 37, in reference to the Western Maryland Rail Road
Company;

Referred to the Carroll county delegation.
