bill to confirm the division of the real estate of Samuel Hopkins,
deceased, of Howard county;                                       

Also, leave was granted to bring in a bill to sell the State's
interest in the. Chesapeake and Ohio Canal;

And reported a bill entitled, an act to confirm the division of
the real estate of Samuel Hopkins, deceased;

Which was read the first time.                                           

The order of the evening being,

A bill entitled, an act to establish an additional Election Dis-
trict in St. Mary's county;                             

Which was read the second time;
Mr. Harris offered the following amendment:

"Section 7. And be it enacted, That the Governor be and he
is hereby empowered to appoint and commission two persons re-
siding within the line of said district, who shall act as Justices of
the Peace until the next general election of Delegates.

"Section 8. And be it enacted, That the Commissioners of St.
Mary's county be and they are hereby empowered to appoint two
persons residing within said district, to act as Constables."

Amendment assented to.                                    

The said bill was then read the third time, and passed by yeas
and nays as follows :
