Mr. Travers offered the following message :                 

By the House of Delegates,
March 6th, 1856.

Gentlemen of the Senate:                                         

We respectfully ask to withdraw the message sent in reply to
one transmitted us by your body, in regard to the appointment
of a committee to confer with each other as to the propriety of
appointing a committee to examine the work of the codfiers,
during the recess. They concur in the message sent by your
honorable body, and have appointed on the part of the House,
Messrs. Travers, Carper and Fiery.

Which was read and sent to the Senate.

Mr. Wickes reported a bill entitled, an act authorising the pay-
ment of one hundred dollars to Henry Hagan, for services ren-
dered the State;

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Committee
on Claims.                                                                   

Mr. Corby reported a bill entitled, an act amending the acts
passed at January session, 1853, chapter 249, and January ses-
sion, 1855, chapter 102, for making a Turnpike Road from Ha-
gerstown, in said county, appointing commissioners for taking
stock, regulating votes, and authorising an increased subscription
on the part of the county, and making other changes in the for-
mer acts;                                                                               

Which was read the first time.            

On motion of Mr. Corby,          

Leave was granted the Washington county delegation to bring
in a bill to amend a charter of the Hagerstown and Smithsburg
Turnpike Company, in Washington county.

Mr. Frazier, Chairman of the Committee on Claims, reported
favorably on a bill entitled, an act to refund to Francis J. Henry,
Thomas H. Hicks, Edward D., Martin, George B. Gray, Jacob
Fisher, J. Frisby Gordon, H. H. Mitchell, James Palmer, Joseph
Stuart, C. W. Billingslea, A. Lingan Jarrett, James Wason,
Isaac Nesbitt, and Benjamin E. Gantt, the several sums of money
erroneously paid into the Treasury by the said parties in the year

1852, and part of 1853.

On motion of Mr. Rowles,
Leave was granted the Howard county delegation to bring in a
