698            JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS.             [Mar. 6,

Mr. Merrick moved to strike out the fourth section of said
bill;

Which was assented to.

Mr. Merrick moved to strike out all after the word "that," in
the 1st line, to the word "the," in the sixth line, and insert the
word "shall" instead of "may," in the seventh line;

Which was assented to.               

Pending the further consideration of said bill,

On motion of Mr. Stack,                                   

The House adjourned until to-morrow morning, at 9 o'clock.

THURSDAY, March 6th, 1856.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll the following
members:

Whitby, Stack, Kennedy, Partridge, Smith, of Baltimore city,
Abbott, Valiant, Askew, Harrington, Fiery, Witmer, Reichard,
Loughridge, Corby, Hall, Tower, Brown, Smith, of Carroll,
Buffington, Stewart, Rowles.

On motion of Mr. Partridge,         

The reading of the Journal was dispensed with.           

The Speaker laid before the House the following

REPORT:
To the Honorable, the

General Assembly of Maryland :

The memorial of the undersigned respectfully shows, that in
consequence of the numerous artificial manures now offered for
sale in this State, your memorialist, an extensive manufacturer
of various artificial preparations for the improvement of the soil,
