On motion of Mr. Frazier,
The rules were suspended to submit the following order:
Ordered, That the committee on Colored Population be re-
quested to inquire into the expediency of the passage of a law to
sell the free and slave negroes now confined in the Maryland
Penitentiary, out of the State; the slaves for life, and the free
ones for the term they have got to serve; the proceeds of the
slaves to go to the counties from whence they came, and the free
ones into the Treasury of the State.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Partridge, from the committee on Judiciary, reported fa-
vorably on a bill entitled, an act authorising a patent to be issued
to Peregrine Harp for, the tract of land called "Minors Begin-
ning."
Mr. Parker reported a bill entitled, an act to authorise the
Commissioners of Worcester county to have all deeds recorded in
Somerset county, prior to 1742, conveying title to land within the
jurisdiction of Worcester county, copied by the Clerk of the Cir-
cuit Court of said county and deposited among the records of
his office;
Which was read the first time, and referred to the Worcester
and Somerset counties delegations.
Mr. Davis offered the following order:
Ordered, That the thanks of this House be and are
hereby tendered to the Rev. J. J. Graff and the Rev. R. D. Cham-
bers, Chaplains, for the faithful manner in which they have dis-
charged their duties, and that the committee on claims be author-
ised to pay to each of them the sum of one hundred and fifty
dollars;
Mr. Partridge moved to strike out "fifty," and insert "one
hundred;"
Which was adopted, and passed as amended.
