Carper, Grove, Hauver, Duvall, Silver, Whitby, Stack, Part-
ridge, Smith, of Baltimore City, Abbott, Valiant, Askew, Har-
rington, Fiery, Winner, Reichard, Corby, Kildow, Frey, Smith,
of Carroll, Buffington.


The proceedings of yesterday were read.

                               

On motion of Mr. Davis,

Ordered, That a committee of one from each county and one
from the city of Baltimore be appointed—authorized to take into
consideration the expediency of submitting to the people of
Maryland, at the next general election, the question "for or
against" the passage of a prohibitory liquor law;

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Stone,                 

Ordered, That the Committee of Ways and Means inquire into
the expedience of releasing the interest due from collectors, clerks,
registers and sheriffs to the State, where the debt has been of
more than five years standing, provided, that the principal be
paid into the Treasury on or before the first day of June; and re-
port thereon by bill or otherwise;

Which was adopted.                             

Mr. Rankin offered the following order,

Ordered, That a committee of one from each county and one
from the city of Baltimore be appointed to inquire into the ex-
pediency of abolishing the office of Guano Inspector,

The Speaker announced the following gentlemen as the mem-
bers of the select Committee to inquire into that portion of the
Governor's Message relating to secret political associations,

viz:

Messrs. Kennedy, Hall, Goldsborough, Merrick, and Plow-
den.                                                     

On motion,

Mr. Plowden was excused from serving on said Committee.

On motion of Mr. Silver,

Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary to bring
in a bill entitled an act relating to the emoluments of Clerks and
Registers, passed May, 31st, 1853, Section 1st.; requiring the
said Clerks and Registers to make a semi-annual return to the
Comptroller of the emoluments of their offices, whether said return
shall exceed $25 00 or not.           

Mr. Partridge presented a Compilation and Digest of the License
Laws by E. O. Hinkley, Esq.; and offered the following order:
