A bill entitled, an art to authorize the Treasurer to pay to
Isaac Nesbitt, of Washington county, certain moneys improperly
paid by him in the Treasury, as clerk of the Washington county
court;

Which was read the first time, and referred to Messrs. Fiery,
Loughridge and Wilmer.

A bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money to pay for
a painting illustrating the surrender by George Washington, of
his commission as commander-in-chief of the army of the Ameri-
can Revolution in the Senate chamber of Maryland, December
23d, 1783;

Was read the first time, and referred to the committee on Ways
and Means.

A bill entitled, an act to amend an act entitled, an act to au-
thorize the appointment of commissioners to take acknowledge-
ments of deeds and instalments of writing under seal, out of the
State of Maryland, passed at December session 1837, chapter 97;

Was read the first time, and referred to the committee on Ju-
diciary.            

A bill entitled, an act for the benefit of the Infant children of
David Dryden, of Somerset county;

Was read the first time, and referred to Messrs. Daniel, Law-
son and Toadvine.

A hill entitled, an act to appropriate a sum of money to pay
Edward W. Belt, late clerk of the circuit court for Prince George's
county, for collection fees due him by the State;

Which was read the first time, and referred to Messrs. Brooke,
Bowie and Bowling.

A bill entitled, an act amendatory of an act entitled, an act to con-
tinue the corporate existence of the several Banking Institutions
therein mentioned, passed January session 1853, chapter 441, as
far as relates to the Merchants Bank of Baltimore;

Was read the first time, and referred to the committee on

Corporations.

A bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Express Steam Navi-
gation Company;

Was read the first time, and referred to the committee on Cor-
porations.

A bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Queen Anne's and
Kent Rail Road Company;                                   

Was read the first time, and referred to the committee on In-
ternal Improvements.
