532 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS           [Feb. 29,

A bill entitled, an act for the relief of the Trustees of the Fred-
erick female Seminary.                                                                 

A bill entitled, an act to change the commencement of the
September term of the Court of Howard county.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise William T. G. Polk, admin-
istrator of Arnold Cottman, free negro, to execute a deed of man-
umission for certain slaves therein mentioned.                             

A bill entitled, an act to rehear and re-examine the question of
damages or the road to Mrs. Ann Brown's landing.

A bill entitled, an act to authorize the Commissioners of Som-
erset county to cause to be built a new jail in said county.

A bill entitled, an art to increase the allowance to the Sheriff
of Talbot county, for keeping and boarding in jail of said county,
such prisoners as may be committed for breaches of the peace or
lor any criminal offence or otherwise, and lor keeping and board-
ing any runaway negro or negro slave, committed to the jail of
said county by any citizen of this State.                                       

A bill entitled, an act to direct the Orphans' Court of Caroline
county in the distribution of the school fund of said county.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise the magistrates of the seve-
ral election district of Allegany county, to deliver their dockets
and all official papers appertaining thereto, into the hands of their
respective successors in office.

A bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for the
payment of the Claims of James Murray, Thomas A. Mitchell,
Samuel S. Riley, Chany & Pritchard, John W. Davis, James H.
League, Dixon Balbirnie & Co., James Hopkins, Noah Porter,
John T. Watkins, J. Wesley White, James H. Iglehart, and Jesse
Hay, against the State of Maryland;                                               

Severally endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."

Also a bill entitled, an act to make valid a deed purporting to
be from Edward Ruley to James McMillan, with the proposed
amendment:                             

Amendment Proposed.

At the end of first section add: "Provided however that nothing
in this act contained shall effect the rights of bona fide purchasers
or creditors without notice who may have become so before the
passage of this act:"                                                                             

Amendment assented to and passed by yeas and nays as follows:
