FRIDAY, February 29th, 1856.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll the .following
members:                                                   

Messrs. Speaker, Harris, Griffith, Dorsey, Neff, Waters, Wil-
son, of Calvert, Dowell, Stone, Merrick, Chilcoat, Rankin,
Wright, Cullings, Heath, Roberts, Toadvine, Lawson, Wilson,
of Somerset, Daniel, Dail, Thomas, Scott, Stubbs, Miller,
Brooke, Bowie, Goldsborough, Rolph, Parker, Smith, of Wor-
cester, Brengle, Davis, Carper, Grove, Hauver, Duvall, Jarrett,
Silver, Whitby, Stack, Kennedy, Partridge, Smith, of Baltimore
city, Abbott, Valiant, Lester, Harrington, Fiery, Witmer, Reich-
ard, Loughridge, Corby, Harding, Hall, Tower, Wickes, Kil-
dow, Frey, Brown, Smith, of Carroll, Buffington, Stewart,
Rowles.                                                                     

On motion of Mr. Brooke,               

The reading of Wednesday evening and yesterday morning's
journal were dispensed with.

Mr. Brooke presented a memorial of sundry citizens of the
ninth election district of Prince George's county, praying for an
additional primary school;

Which was referred to the Prince George's county delega-
tion.                                                                                           

Mr. Valiant presented a petition of Wm. J. Hyde and fifteen
other citizens of Baltimore city, praying that no law may be
enacted, giving the Justices of the peace jurisdiction in causes
therein named;              

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Dorsey presented a petition of Thos. E. Martin, Wm. S.
Weldon and Wm. V. Stinchomb, asking to be refunded certain
moneys illegally forfeited and paid into the Treasury;

Which was referred to the committee on-Judiciary.

Mr. Carper presented a petition from Peter Boyer and twenty-
five other citizens of Frederick county, praying for legislation in
reference to nunneries;

Which was referred to the committee on that subject.

On motion of Mr. Jarrett,

Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation to introduce
a bill authorising the Register of Baltimore city to pay coroners'
fees quarterly.

On motion of Mr. Scott,                                                         

Leave was granted to Cecil county delegation, to introduce a
bill to aid in the construction of a railroad in Cecil county.
