Which was adopted.                          

The said bill was then read the second time, and ordered to be
engrossed for the third reading.

On motion of Mr. Chilcoat,
The House adjourned till to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock,

THURSDAY, February 28th, 1856.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll the following
members:

Messrs. Speaker, Griffith, Dorsey, Neff, Waters, Dowell, Stone,
Merrick, Chilcoat, Rankin, Wright, Cullings, Heath, Roberts,
Toadvine, Lawson, Wilson, of Som., Daniel, Dail, Thomas, Scott,
Stubbs, Miller, Brooke, Rolph, Parker, Smith, of Worcester,
Brengle, Davis, Carper, Grove, Hauver, Duvall, Jarrett, Silver,
Whitby, Stack, Kennedy, Partridge, Abbott, Lester, Hugg, Har-
rington, Witmer, Reichard, Loughridge, Corby, Tower, Kildow,
Frey, Brown, Smith, of Carroll, Buffington, Stewart, Rowles.

The reading of yesterday morning's journal was dispensed
with.

On motion of Mr. Kennedy,                                               

The rules were suspended to enable him to offer the following
orders:                           

Ordered, That leave be granted the Committee on Ways and
Means;

Ordered, That the Speaker be allowed to appoint an additional
clerk to the committee on Ways and Means;

Which were severally read and adopted.

Mr. Carper presented a petition from 65 citizens of Frederick,
county, asking legislation in reference to the nunneries;

Also, a similar petition from 87 citizens of Frederick county.

Which were severally referred to the special committee on that
subject.                 

Mr. Chilcoat presented a petition of J. T. Councilman and 21
