50.             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS           [Jan. 11,

Mr. Timmons reported a bill entitled, an act supplementary to
an act entitled, "An act relating to non-resident guardians of in-
fants living out of this State and having property therein," pass-
ed at December Session, 1846, chapter 300;

Which was read the first time, and referred to the committee
on the Judiciary.

Mr. Timmons reported a bill entitled, a supplement to an act
entitled an act to incorporate the Worcester Rail Road Company,
passed at January Session, 1853, chapter 273 ;

Which was read the first time and referred to the committee
on Internal Improvements.

Mr. Smith, of Worcester, reported a bill entitled, an Act to
give the Justices of the Peace of Worcester county jurisdiction in
all cases of assault and battery hereinbefore given to the magis-
trate's courts of this State, by the Act of 1835, Chapter 201.

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Committee
on Judiciary.

The bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Somerset and Wor-
cester Savings Bank, was read the second time, and referred to
the Committee on Corporations.

The bill entitled, an act to denominate the town of Cumberland
a city and to change, and provide for an alternative for the name
of the corporate body thereof,

Was read third the time, and rejected by yeas and nays as fol-
lows :
