Leave was granted to the Cecil county delegation, to introduce
a bill to impose a tax on dogs for the protection of sheep.

Also, leave to introduce a bill to amend the charter of the
Philadelphia and Baltimore Central Rail Road Company.

Also, leave to introduce a bill to amend the law relating to
Roads and Road Supervisors for Cecil county.


On motion of Mr. Bowie,

Ordered, That the Comptroller report to this House, as early
as practicable, if in his opinion any, and how much reduction
could be made in the direct tax under the existing revenue laws
without detriment to the State credit,

On motion of Mr. Hugg,         

Leave was granted to a special committee of three, to intro-
duce a bill to prevent, the harboring of deserted seamen appren-
tices by keepers of sailors' boarding houses.

On motion of Mr. Daniel,

Ordered, That the Farmers' Bank of Maryland, be, and it is
hereby authorised, upon the presentation of any claim by any of
the members or officers of this House, signed by the Chairman
of the Committee on Claims, or the Chairman pro tem., to pay
the same.                                                 

Mr. Partridge presented a bill to change the name of John
White, of the city of Baltimore, to John W. Maxfield ;

Which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

On motion of Mr. Askew,

Ordered, That when this House adjourn it stand adjourned to
Monday next at 12 o'clock, so as to enable the Speaker to have
proper repairs and arrangements made in the Hall for the com-
fort of the Members of this House.

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city,             

Leave was granted to the Committee on Lotteries to report a
bill entitled, an Act to prevent the introduction into this State of
fraudulent Lotteries and Lottery Tickets.

On motion of Mr. Roberts,
Ordered, That the Journal of the proceedings of this House
shall be placed on the desk of each Member before the Clerk pro-
ceeds to read the same.

Mr. Heath offered the following Resolution :

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Governor be requested to authorise the Adjutant General to grant
the use of fifty muskets and two field pieces, to the students of
" St. Timothy's Hall," Catonsville, Maryland, for instruction in
the military drill.
