FRIDAY, January 11th, 1856.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll the following
members:                            

Messrs. Travers, Speaker; Plowden, Dorsey, Neff, Waters,
Wilson, of Calvert, Dowell, Stone, Merrick, Chilcoat, Rankin,
Wright, Cullings, Heath, Roberts, Toadvine, Lawson, Wilson,
of Somerset, Daniel, Dail, Thomas, Stubbs, Brooke, Bowie,
Goldsborough, Rolph, Parker, Timmons, Smith, of Worcester,
Brengle, Davis, Carper, Grove, Hauver, Duvall, Jarrett, Silver,
Whitby, Stack, Kennedy, Partridge, Smith of Baltimore city,
Abbott, Valiant, Lester, Hugg, Askew, Harrington, Fiery, Witmer,
Reichard, Loughridge, Corby, Harding, Hall, Tower, Kildow,
Smith, of Carroll, Burlington, Stewart, Rowles,

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Stewart presented a petition from J. T. B. Dorsey, for
compensation in case of State vs. Shillinger, in Court of Appeals.

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims,

                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, presented a petition from George
W. Westwood, asking compensation for services rendered in the
office of the clerk of the court of Common Pit-as, of Baltimore
city.

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.

The Speaker laid before the House the following communica-
tion:                 

OFFICE CLERK CIRCUIT COURT

FOR Anne Arundel COUNTY.

ANNAPOLIS, January 11th, 1856.

To the Honorable Wm. H. Travers,                                             

Speaker of the House of Delegates.

I have the honor to report, that as clerk of the Circuit Court
for Anne Arundel county, I received and paid over to the Treasurer
of Maryland, upon the warrants of the Comptroller for the year
ending 30th November, 1854, $3,364,42, and that for the year
ending November, 1855, $3,413,71.                       

Which is respectfully submitted.

Also, the report of the visitors of St. John's Literary Institu-

                         

Also, a communication from the secretary of the Washington
and Baltimore Turnpike company, covering a statement of receipts
and expenditures from January 1854, to January 1856.
