On motion of Mr. Askew,

The House took up the resolutions offered yesterday by Mr.
Kennedy.                                                              

Mr. Wilkes moved that the whole matter be postponed.
Mr. Daniel moved to amend by adding "until to-morrow,"
Which was accepted;                                                       

And the question being on the postponemont,
It was determined in the negative.

Mr. Merrick moved to amend the resolutions by waking the
committee consist of seven instead of five.
The previous question was demanded.
The yeas and nays being called for on the amendment;
The Speaker decided that it was not in order.

Mr. Wickes offered an amendment to the amendment, to in-
crease the committee to twenty-two; one from each county, and
the city of Baltimore.                                         

The question being upon the amendment of Mr. Wickes,
It was determined in the negative.                                   

The question then recurring upon the amendment of Mr.
Merrick,                                                             

It was determined in the negative.

The question then being upon the original resolutions;
They were adopted.

Mr. Merrick requested that the fact be noted on the Journal,
that he had called the yeas and nays on his amendment, and that
the Speaker had decided that his call was out of order.

The Speaker requested that it also be noted on the Journal
that the yeas and nays on Mr. Merrick's amendment were called
after the decision of the question, viva voce, had been decided by
the Chair.
