The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bills:
A bill entitled, an act act authorising the County Commission-
ers of Frederick county to remove from the assessment of said
county, an absconding negro man, a slave for life, now assessed
to Thomas J. Griffith.
Also, a bill entitled, an act granting the leave of the Legisla-
ture to a devise made in the last will of Peter, Turner, a free ne-
gro of Cecil county, to the trustees of the West Nottingham
Presbyterian Church, of said county.
Also, a bill entitled, a supplement to an act entitled, an act au-
thorising the Comptroller of the Treasury to pay to Oelrichs &
Lurman the amount of coupons lost in the United States Mail
Steamer Arctic.
Also, a bill entitled, an act amendatory of the act entitled, an
act to incorporate the Metropolitan. Railroad Company, passed
January session, 1853.
Severally endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."
And returned a till entitled, a supplement to an act entitled, an
act to incorporate the Maryland and Delaware Railroad Com-
pany;
Endorsed "passed by yeas and nays, with proposed amend-
ments."
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Sec. 3. Strike out after the word "authorised" in 2nd line and
in 6th line, insert "to extend said road southerly from the terminus
of said road in Talbot county near the town of Hillsborough, as
now located to a point on the Potomac river, within the limits of
Charles or St. Mary's counties; Provided, said extension shall
be commenced within two years from the passage of this act and
finished within five years from the commencement of said ex-
tension."
Strike out all after the words "Section 9," and insert "And be
it enacted that the said company shall be authorised to own and
run a line of stage coaches between the points with which said
road is intended to connect and to make such charges for the
transportation of passengers, mails and other articles as the said
company may deem advisable, and that the said company are
