Which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
Also to present a petition of R. J. Jackson, Caleb Emlin, P.
W. Silver, and 150 others, in favor of a more effective road sys-
tem in this State;                                                             

Which was referred to the Committee on Roads.

Mr. Stone from the Committee on Claims reported a Bill en-
titled An act appropriating a sum of money for the use of Joseph

Stewart;

Which was read the first time.
Also reported unfavorably on the memorial of Levin Mobray, of
Dorchester county, praying the Legislature to refund to him a cer-
tain sum of money erroneously paid into the Treasury;

Which report was concurred in.

Mr. Hall from the Committee on Insolvencies, reported a bill
entitled an act to carry into effect the thirty-ninth section of the
fourth article of the Constitution for the exemption from execu-
tion of a reasonable amount of a debtor's property.

Also a bill entitled, an act supplementary to an act entitled, an
act for the relief of insolvent debtors, passed January session
1854, chapter 193;                                                                     

Which were severally read the first time.

Mr. Partridge from the Committee on Judiciary, reported a bill
entitled an act to regulate the compensation of the Judges of the
Orphans Court for Baltimore city;

Which was read the first time.

Also a bill entitled an act to amend an act entitled, an act to
regulate the issuing of licenses to traders, keepers of ordinaries,
and others;

           

Which was read the first time.

Also favorably on a bill entitled an act supplementary to an act
entitled, an act for founding a College at Chestertown.             

Also, favorably on the Senate bill entitled an act amendatory .
of an act entitled, an act to prevent frauds in mortgages and bills
of sale, passed December session 1846, chapter 271.

Mr. Sudler from the committee on colored population, reported
favorably on the Senate bill entitled, an act to repeal an act,
passed January session, 1854, chapter 194, entitled, an act for
the better protection of slaveholders in the several counties there-
in mentioned.
