land, praying compensation for the arrest of Frederick Miller,
the murderer of Dr. Hadel and Henry Graff;

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Carper presented a petition of 64 citizens of Frederick
county, calling the attention of the Legislature to the existence,
in the State, of private prisons, commonly known as convents;

Which was referred to the special committee on that subject.

Mr. Dorsey presented the recommendation of Gov. Ligon and
69 other citizens of Annapolis, with the petition of John Lane
and other free negroes of said city, for the passage of an act ex-
tending the provisions of the act of 1845, chapter 284, to the
city of Annapolis;                 

Which was referred to the Anne Arundel delegation.

Mr. Stewart presented a petition of sundry citizens of Howard
county, praying an endowment for the Military Academy at Ox-
ford;

Which was referred to the Committee on Militia.
Mr. Kildow offered the following order:

Ordered, That that that portion of the Governor's message delat-
ing to the boundary line between the States of Maryland and Vir-
ginia, be withdrawn from the Committee on the Judiciary, and
referred to the Committee on Federal Relations, with instruc-
tions to report a bill to carry into effect the recommendations of
the Governor upon that subject;

Which was read and adopted.              

On motion of Mr. Valiant,                                 

Leave was granted the Committee on Judiciary to introduce a
bill entitled, an act relative to conveyances and devises of per-
sonal and real estate for religious purposes.

On motion of Mr. Lester,

Leave was granted the Baltimore city and Anne Arundel dele-
gations to introduce a, bill to enlarge the bounds of Baltimore

city.

On motion of Mr. Harris,                                 

Leave was granted the Committee on Claims to introduce a
bill for the relief of William T. Maddox.

On motion of Mr. Daniel,
Leave was granted the Somerset delegation to introduce a bill
