376           JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS. [Feb. 19,

A bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for the

payment of the claims of James Murray, Thomas A. Mitchell,
Samuel S. Riley, Chaney & Pritchard, John W. Davis, James
H. League, Dixon, Balbirnie & Co., James Hopkins, Noah Por-
ter, John T. Watkins, J. Wesley White, and James H. Iglehart,
against the State of Maryland.

Mr. Lester offered the following amendments:

1st. Sec. 1769 50.

2d. Pay Jesse Hay for paving O'Donnell's Wharf, Baltimore.
3d. Pay Jesse Hay $181.00
Amendments assented to.

The said bill was then read the second time and ordered to be
engrossed for the third reading.

On motion of Mr. Askew,
The House adjourned till to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock.

              WEDNESDAY, February 20th, 1856.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll the following
members:

Stone, Chilcoat, Rankin, Wright, Callings, Heath, Roberts, Toad-

Brengle, Davis, Carper, Grove, Hauver, Wolfe, Duvall, Jarrett,
Silver, Whitby, Stack, Partridge, Smith of Balt, city, Abbott,
Valiant, Lester, Askew, Harrington, Reichard, Loughridge, Cor-
by, Harding, Hall, Tower, Wickes, Kildow, Frey, Brown, Smith.
of Carroll, Buffington, Stewart, Rowles.                   

The proceedings of yesterday morning were read.
                                       

Mr. Kildow presented the petition of the Clerk and Register of
Wills of Allegany county, praying to be refunded certain moneys
wrongfully paid into the Treasury;
