368              JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 19,

Mr. Merrick offered the following amendment:
Insert at the end of second section                   

"And the said President of the Senate, Comptroller and Treas-
urer are hereby authorised to substitute an Artesian well in the
place of the aforesaid tanks, if in their judgment the public in-
terest will be promoted by such substitution."                     

Amendment assented to.

Mr. Merrick moved the call of the House, and the following
members answered to their names:

Messrs. Speaker, Plowden, Harris, Dorsey, Neff, Waters,
Dowell, Stone, Merrick, Chilcoat, Rankin, Wright, Cullings,
Roberts, Toadvine, Wilson, of Somerset, Daniel, Dail Frazier,
Stubbs, Goldsborough, Parker, Timmons, Smith, of Worcester,
Brengle, Davis, Carper, Grove, Hauver, Duvall Jarrett, Silver,
Whitby, Stack, Partridge, Smith, of Baltimore city, Valiant,
Lester, Askew, Harrington, Fiery, Reichard. Loughridge, Corby,
Harding, Tower, Kildow, Frey, Brown, Smith, of Carroll, Buff-

ington, Stewart, Rowles.               

On motion of Mr. Merrick,                                       

The further call of the House was dispensed with.

Mr. Timmons moved the said bill be postponed until Saturday
the 23rd inst.                           

Which was determined in the negative.
                                            

The said bill was then read the third time and rejected as fol-
lows:
