362             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS           [Feb. 19,

Mr. Wright presented the memorial of 217 citizens of Balti-
more county, praying an act for the protection of stock along the
line of the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore railroad;

Which was referred to the Cecil, Harford, and Baltimore county
delegations.                  

Mr. Whitby presented the memorial of 421 citizens of Caro-
line county, in relation to the balance of the one million of dol-
lars, due the Eastern Shore, for internal improvements;

Which was referred to the committee on ways and means.

Mr. Rankin presented the petition of numerous citizens of Bal-
timore county, relative to the suppression of nunneries.

Which was referred to the Special Committee on that subject.

Mr. Chilcoat presented a petition of 140 citizens of Baltimore
and Carroll counties, asking the erection of a bridge over the
Patapsco Falls;

Which was referred to Baltimore county delegation.
               

Mr. Roberts presented a petition from 34 citizens of Talbot
county, praying an endowment for the Military Academy at Ox-
ford, Talbot county;

Which was referred to the Committee on Militia.

Mr. Lester from the Committee on Inspections, reported unfa-
vorably on the bill entitled, a supplement to an act entitled, an
act to regulate inspections in the city of Baltimore, passed March
10th, 1851, chapter 200;
Which report was concurred in.

Mr. Dail presented the petition of sundry citizens of Dorches-
ter county, praying an endowment of the Oxford Military Aca-
demy;

Which was referred to the Committee on Militia.

Mr. Partridge presented the petition of 203 inhabitants of Bal-
timore city, praying an endowment of the Oxford Military Aca-

demy;

Which was referred to the Committee on Militia.

Mr. Hauver presented a petition of sundry citizens of Fred-
erick county, praying the passage of a law to suppress private
prisons;         

Which was referred to the select committee on that subject.
