Which was read the first time, and referred to the Committee
on Agriculture.

Also the petition of Jacob Fiery, and other farmers, and citi-
zens of Washington county, against the abolition of the office of
State Chemist, and for other purposes;

Which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture.

And returned the bill entitled, an act for the protection of
sheep, by taxing dogs in Cecil county, with the following amend-
ments :

Amendments Proposed.          

1st. In section 1, fourth line, strike out the words "one
month," and insert instead the words "two months."

2nd. In section 1, in" the 8th line, strike out the words "every
single," and insert instead "one."

3rd. In section 1, in the 18th line, strike out the words "for
the years 1854 and 1855," and insert "under the act passed
March 9th, 1854, chapter 129.

4th. In section 2, 21st line, strike out the words "and is here-
by empowered to."                                                    

5th. In section 3, 10th line, strike out the words "every dog
kept or staying about any," and insert "the fact that any dog is
kept or stays about a."                      

6th. In section 7, 11th line, after the word "session," insert
"1854."
