Which was determined in the negative.

On motion of Mr. Rankin,         

The House was called and the Following members were present:

Messrs. Speaker, pro tern., Sudler, Dorsey,. Neff, Waters,
Dowell, Chilcoat, Rankin, Wright, Cullings, Heath, Daniel,
Dail, Scott, Stubbs, Miller, Brooke, Bowie, Goldsborough, Rolph,
Davis, Carper, Grove, Hauver, Duvall, Silver, Stack, Partridge,
Valiant, Lester, Hugg, Askew, Harrington, Loughridge, Hall,
Brown, Smith of Carrol, Buffington—38.

                                                                    

On motion of Mr. Valiant,
The sergeant-at-arms was sent for the absent member;

After some absence the sergeant-at-arms returned with the ab-
sent members:                                                   

Mr. Bowie moved that the further call of the House be dis-
pensed with;

Which was determined in the negative.

The sergeant-at-arms again was sent for the absent members;

After some absence the sergeant-at-arms returned with the ab-
sent members,                                  

On motion of Mr. Valiant,                  

The further call of the House was dispensed with;

Whereupon the Speaker pro tem., declared that Dr. Dennis
Claude had been duly elected State Treasurer for the ensuing
term.                                     

On motion of Mr. Valiant,
The House proceeded with the election of Bank Directors;

And upon the call of the roll it appeared that 49 members had
voted;                                                   

When the ballot box was sealed by the Speaker pro tem. and
delivered into the hands of Messrs. Bowie and Dorsey, tellers on
the part of the House, who proceeded to the Senate chamber to
join the gentlemen who had been appointed on the part of the
Senate for the purpose of counting the ballots.

After an absence of some time the tellers on the part of the
House returned and reported that with the tellers on the part of
the Senate they had counted the ballots cast, and found that True-
man Belt had fifty three votes, and J. Bond Chaplain fifty four
