The rules were suspended, to enable him to report from the
select committee on a bill entitled, an act to provide for filing,
transcribing and preserving the public records now in the State
House, at Annapolis;                                                               

Which was read the first time,                    

Also on a bill entitled, an act to provide for the better regula-
tion and conduct of the business of the Land Office ;

Which was read the first time.                                           

                                   

The order of the day being,             

Ordered, That this House meet at 8 o'clock at night from and
after Tuesday next, hereafter, until otherwise ordered, and at
which night session bills entitled to a second reading shall be en-
titled to the preference over other business;

Mr. Rankin offered the following substitute:

Ordered, That hereafter the house meet at 8 o'clock on Tues-
day and Thursday evening, until otherwise ordered.

Mr. Silver offered the following substitute :                   

Ordered, That this House shall hereafter meet at 10 o'clock in
the morning, until otherwise ordered.

Mr. Harding moved that the whole matter be laid on the
table;                  

Which was determined in the negative.                                     

Mr. Silver called for the previous question;
Which was sustained.

The question was then taken on the substitute offered by Mr.
Silver;                                                                          

Which was determined in the negative.

The question was next taken on the substitute offered by Mr,
Rankin;

Which was determined in the negative.

The question then recurring on the original order,

Mr. Merrick called for the yeas and nays, which were ordered,
and appeared as follows:
