The said message was then sent to the Senate.
The Speaker, pro tem., delivered the following:

Treasury, Annapolis,

                                                           15th Feb'y, 1856.

To the Hon'ble Home of Delegates:

Gentlemen:—In compliance with the order of the 13th inst.,
requiring the Treasurer to furnish the House with a statement of
the amount of salary paid the State Chemist, the amount paid his
assistant, the amount paid for printing the reports of said Chem-
ist, &c, since the passage of the act of December session 1847,
chapter 249.

The Treasurer states that there has been paid as follows,
viz;

On account of Salary to State Chemist........... $14,408 49

"           Salary to Assistant.............. 1,780 54

"           Apparatus and Chemicals..........,, 1,550 00

"           Printing his Report.................. 2,422 75

           Very respectfully,

Your ob't serv't,

D. CLAUDE,

                                      Treasurer.

             

Which was read; and                                         

On motion of Mr. Dowell,
It was referred to the Committee on Agriculture.

The order of the day being the preamble and resolution offered
by Mr. Rowles on Tuesday, in relation to the sale of the $500,000
of unpreferred stock of the State of Maryland, in the Baltimore
and Ohio Rail Road ;

They were read the second time, adopted, and referred to a se-
lect committee of three, consisting of Messrs. Rowles, Griffith
and Dowell.
