330            JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 15,

By the Senate,                       

           February 14th, 1856.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:                        

The Honorable Anthony Kennedy having been duly elected a

Senator of the United States, for six years from the 4th of March

1857, when the term of the Hon. Thomas G. Pratt will expire,

we propose with the concurrence of your honorable body that the

President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Delegates

be requested to address a joint letter to the Hon. Anthony Ken-

nedy informing him of his election as aforesaid,

Which was read.                                            

Mr. Silver submitted the following message:

By the House of Delegates,

February 15th, 1856.

Gentlemen of the Senate :

We have received your message, proposing that the President
of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Delegates shall inform
the Honorable Anthony Kennedy of his election as Senator in the
Congress of the United States for the term of six years from the
4th of March 1857, and concur therein.

Thos. H. Kent, of Jos., Clerk.
Which was read, adopted and sent to the Senate.

Mr. Brooke presented a memorial of 29 citizens of the village
of Bladensburg against a modification of the act of 1854, chapter

139;

Which was referred to the Prince George's county delegations

                                                                                                                         

Also presented a memorial of the town commissioners of Bla-

densburg, in Prince George's county against a modification of the

act of 1854, chapter 137;                                           

Which was referred to the Prince George's county delegation.

Mr. Carper presented a petition from 32 citizens of Frederick
county calling the attention of the Legislature to the existence of
private prisons in the State known as convents;           

Which was referred to a committee on that subject.
Mr. Dorsey presented the petition of Thomas J. Brice and John
