Whereupon the Speaker declared that the Hon. Anthony Ken-
nedy had been duly elected United States Senator for the term of
six years, from the 4th of March, 1857.
Mr. Wickes submitted the following order;
Ordered, That the Committee appointed to investigate the exist-
ence of secret political societies in this State, report the progress
they have made in such investigation, the number of witnesses they
have examined under oath, and the names of such witnesses;
and that they also report whether in the summoning of witness-
es they have selected those who have been as well as those who
now are members of the American party.
