the part of the House Mr. Anthony Kennedy to supply the place
of the Hon. Thomas G. Pratt, whose term of service will expire
on the 4th of March 1857.
We have nominated on the part of the Senate. Mr. Anthony
Kennedy.
We have appointed Messrs. Dennis and Clark, to join the gen-
tlemen named by your honorable body to count the ballots and re-
port the same.

The House was called and the following members were present.

lings, Heath, Toadvine, Wilson, of Somerset, Daniel, Dail,
Frazier, Scott, Stubbs, Miller, Bowie, Goldsborough, Rolph,
Parker, Timmons, Smith, of Worcester, Brengle, Davis, Carper,
Grove, Hauver, Wolfe, Duvall, Jarrett, Silver, Whitby, Stack,
Kennedy, Partridge, Smith, of Baltimore city, Abbott, Lester,
Hugg, Askew, Harrington, Fiery, Wilmer, Reichard, Lough-
ridge, Corby, Harding, Hall, Tower, Wickes, Frey, Brown,
Smith, of Carroll, Buffington, Stewart, Rowles.
The House then proceeded to the election of United States
Senator to supply the place of of the Hon. Thomas G., Pratt,
whose time will expire on the fourth of March, 1857, and upon
the call of the roll, it appeared that sixty-three members had voted
when the ballot-box was sealed and delivered by the Speaker in-
to the hands of Messrs. Goldsborough and Plowden, tellers on
the part of the House, to join the gentlemen who had Been ap-
pointed on the part of the Senate, and the said tellers then pro-
ceeded to the Senate Chamber for the purpose of counting the
ballots.
After an absence of some time the tellers on the part of the
House returned and reported that, with the tellers on the part
of the Senate, they had counted the ballots cast for Senator, and
that
Anthony Kennedy, Esq., had received sixty-two votes,
Hon. Thomas G. Pratt had received one vote,
And. there were twelve blank ballots.
