298 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 13,

Mr. Scott presented a petition of citizens of Cecil county ask-
ing that a Committee of the Legislature may be appointed to vis-
it and inspect the old Maryland canal and report upon the same
to the House;

Which was referred to the Committee on Internal Improve-
ments.

Mr. Corby presented a petition from Benjamin Hays and Wm.
D. Anniba and 70 others of Washington county asking for a law
to empower the Commissioners of said county to levy a tax of
five cents on the one hundred dollars worth of taxable property
for the use of primary school in said county;                       

Which was referred to the Washington county delegation.

Mr. Fiery presented a petition from citizens of Washington,
county asking protection against the imposition of hawkers and
pedlars.

Which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Also a memorial from sixty-two citizens of Washington coun-
ty praying the passage of a law for the protection of persons in-

voluntarily confined in convents and nunneries;                   

Which was referred to Messrs. Fiery, Kennedy, Clark, Par-
tridge, and Bowie.

Mr. Grove presented a petition from 45 citizens of Frederick
county, calling the attention of the Legislature to the necessity of
legislation in reference to the unequal taxation now existing in
the State;

Which was referred to the committee on ways and means.

Mr. Smith of Carroll presented a petition of 55 citizens of
Maryland praying a change in the naturalization laws;

Which was referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Goldsborough presented a report of the Commissioners
of the school fund in Queen Anne's county;                   

Which was referred to the Committee on Education.

Mr. Hauver presented a petition of 24 citizens of Frederick
county praying a law to equalize taxation in this State;

Which was referred to the Committee on ways and means.

Mr. Duvall presented a petition of H. Bradford, E. J. Snow
&. co., and 24 other citizens of Harford county to build a bridge
over Winter's Run on the Belair road were it crosses said run near

Snow's mill;
