Miller, Bowie, Goldsborough, Parker, Timmons, Smith, of Wor-
cester, Brengle Carper, Grove, Hauver, Wolfe, Jarrett, Silver,
Whitby, Stack, Partridge, Smith, of Baltimore city, Abbott,
Valiant, Lester, Hugg, Askew, Harrington, Fiery, Witmer,
Reichard, Loughridge, Corby, Harding, Hall, Tower, Wickes,
Smith, of Carroll, Buffington, Stewart, Rowles.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Carper presented a petition from fifty-seven citizens of
Frederick county, calling the attention of the Legislature to the
necessity of legislation in reference to the unequal taxation now
existing in the State.                                                          

Which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Askew presented a petition of two hundred and nine citi-
zens of Baltimore city, against the passage of a law giving Justi-
ces of the Peace jurisdiction in criminal cases.

Which was referred to the Baltimore city delegation,

Mr. Harrington presented a memorial from one hundred and
twenty-eight citizens of Baltimore city, praying for the enactment
of a law granting Justices of the Peace criminal jurisdiction in cer-
tain cases.

Which was referred to the Baltimore city delegation.

Mr. Corby presented a petition from John Van Lear, Jr., of
Washington county asking to be refunded certain moneys paid
by him in his own. wrong to certain collectors in said county.

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.                 

Also, a petition from S. S. Cunningham and E. G. W. Stake,
and sixty-eight other citizens of Washington county, asking,
protection against hawkers and peddlers in said county.

Which was referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Sudler presented a petition against the admission of negro
testimony against white persons, and against the prohibition of
night meetings of negroes, &c.                                         

Which was referred to the Committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Claris presented a petition of Wm. Townsend and sundry
other citizens of Talbot county to pass on act to make valid a deed
from a certain James Tilghman, of said county, to one Andrew
Moore, a free negro.

Which was referred to a select committee composed of Messrs.
Clark, Roberts, and Whitby.
