On motion of Mr. Daniel,

The rules were suspended to enable him to present the report of
the committee to visit and investigate the Maryland Penitentiary,
the Asylum of the Blind, and the House of Refuge;         

The reading of which having been commenced, upon motion,
the further reading was suspended.

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Carroll,

The rules were suspended to enable him to present the petition
of 128 citizens of Carroll and Frederick counties, praying that the
commissioners of said counties be directed imperatively to levy a
sum of money for the construction of a bridge across the Mono-
cacy, at Nelson's Ford;

Which was referred to the Carroll and Frederick delegations.

Mr. Lester presented the memorial of the board of managers of
the house of refuge, with the accompanying documents;

Which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Lester, from the Special Committee appointed to take into
consideration the expediency of building a bridge over the Pa-
tapsco river, made a unfavorable report thereon.                 

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city,
The rules were suspended to enable him to present a petition
from certain lumber dealers in Baltimore city, praying some mod-
ification in the laws relating to the inspection of lumber;         

Which was referred to the Committee on Inspections,
                                             

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following message:

                                       By the Senate.

February 1st, 1856.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:              

We respectfully request your Honorable Body to return to the
Senate, the bill "entitled, an act to amend an act to incorporate
the Fremont Savings Institution,"
By order,
                               C. Harwood, Secretary.

Mr. Lester submitted the following message, which was read
and sent to the Senate:                   

By the House of Delegates.

               February 1st, 1856.

Gentlemen of the Senate;

We have received the message, of your Honorable Body asking
the return of the bill in reference to the Fremont Savings Insti-
tution of Baltimore, and respectfully concur in the same.

              Thomas H.KENT, of Jos., Clerk.
