the office of State Agricultural Chemist;

Also leave to introduce a bill to repeal or amend the acts cre-
ating and regulating the inspection of Guano in the city of Bal-
timore.
Which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture.
Leave was granted Mr. Loughridge to withdraw from the files
of last session the bill entitled an act to amend an act passed at
January session 1852, chapter 182 entitled, an act to incorporate
the town of Sharpsburg and Millers addition to Sharpsburg, and
also the act passed at January Session 1853, chapter 342 amen-
datory of said act, to provide a more effectual punishment for the
violation of the ordinances of said town.
Leave was granted Mr. Heath to bring in a bill to incorporate
Mount St. Mary's Hall, Hampden, Baltimore county.
Mr. Lester submitted the following order;
Ordered, That the Committee on Inspections be and they are
hereby authorized to proceed to the city of Baltimore and dili-
gently examine the State Tobacco Inspection Warehouses and
everything connected therewith; they will investigate as far back
and ascertain why the receipts were so small which caused the
late Comptroller, Henry E. Bateman to recommend to the last
Legislature a chief Inspector of Tobacco; to have general super-
visory power over the warehouses; and in order to enable the
Committee to carry out this order; they are hereby empowered to
send for persons and papers and to put any person or persons
upon his or their oath to testify to any matter or thing connected
with the purport or intention of this order; and a full report make
to this house. Also to ascertain if the Inspectors or any of them
are not frequently absent from their duty and how. often and how
long, and if they draw their salary for the time they are absent.

Ordered, That the Committee on Ways and Means be instruc-
ted to examine into the expediency of passing a law to sell all or
any part of States stock held by any corporation in the State and
report thereon to this House.
