PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, MEMORIALS AND
OTHER PAPERS.

The President submitted a petition of the Mayor, Counsellor
and Aldermen of the city of Annapolis, by Philip E. Porter,
City Clerk of Annapolis, in favor of the passage of the Widow-
Mothers' Pension Bill. [Which was read and referred to the

Committee on Finance. ]

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS.

By Mr. Ogden: Senate Bill No. 538, entitled "An Act to
prescribe the form of referendum petitions and to provide for
furnishing voters of the State the text of measures referred
to them under the provisions of Article 16 of the Constitution
of Maryland, and to add nine new sections to Article 33 of
the Annotated Code of Public General Laws of Maryland
(Bagby's Code), title 'Elections, ' to be known as Sections
43-A, 43-B, 43-0, 43-D, 52-A, 52-B, 52-C, 52-D and 52-E, to fol-
low Sections 43 and 52, respectively. " [Which was read the
first time and referred to the Committee on Finance. ]

By Mr. Zihlman: Senate Bill No. 539, entitled "An Act to
repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 88-D of Chap-
ter 324 of the Acts of 1914, entitled 'An Act to add six new
and additional sections to Article 23 of the Annotated Code
of Public Civil Laws of Maryland (legalized by Chapter 21 of
the Acts of the General Assembly of 1912), title "Corpora-
tions, " said six new and additional sections to come in after
Section 88 of said Article 23 and to be known respectively as
Sections 88-A, 88-B, 88-C, 88-D, 88-E and 88-F of said Article;
the said new and additional sections relating to bonus, capital
stock, property and franchise taxes upon and respecting cor-
porations referred to in this Act, and to repeal all other laws
and sections and all other parts of laws and sections, so far
as the same or any of the same may conflict or be inconsistent
with the provisions of this Act"; the amendment to Section
88-D is intended to exempt charitable, benevolent and fra-
ternal institutions from paying and annual franchise tax. "
